Laboratorios Maverick presents a plan to continue reducing its CO2 emissions in 2021

The company places sustainability at the centre of its business culture

Laboratorios Maverick has verified and registered the calculation of its carbon footprint, in relation to energy consumption, mobility, and waste generation and has presented a plan to reduce CO2 emissions in 2021, in line with its objective of promoting sustainable development.

With this action, it has achieved the Official Seal issued by the OECC, which endorses the plan designed to reduce the environmental impact of its business activity.

The carbon footprint reflects the greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere by the direct effect of individuals, the organization, events or products.

In the last year, Maverick Laboratories has developed, for the first time, aerosols with a new propellant to improve the carbon footprint. In addition, 100% of the electricity consumed in its facilities comes from renewable energy sources free of CO2 emissions.

Placing sustainability at the center is an issue that Laboratorios Maverick has been working on for a long time to not only manufacture natural products but also establish this vision as the backbone of its corporate culture. Thus, sustainability encompasses increasingly broad areas such as social action, to achieve a true balance between economic growth, social welfare, and care for the planet.

Maverick Laboratories promotes the 3 Ps: People, Planet, and Progress with the RSPO certification

Achieving sustainable use of palm oil, we help improve the conditions of small producers

With the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil™ (RSPO™ ) certification, Laboratorios Maverick is committed to the 3 Ps: People, Planet and Progress. Why?

Because by making sustainable use of palm oil, we help improve the social and economic conditions of many small producers.

We take care of the planet, as we preserve ecosystems, contributing to responsible forest management, and promote progress so that the sustainable palm oil trade generates benefits and good conditions for all the people involved.

Every year more than 50 million tons of palm oil are used worldwide in products that are consumed daily, including cosmetics, so we consider it essential to adhere to organizations such as the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil™, of the that we are ordinary partners, thus improving the environmental impact of our products.

In this way, we continue to expand the portfolio of certifications and commitments that support our commitment to sustainable development, which unites the balance between social well-being, care for the environment and prosperity.

Laboratorios Maverick investigates PLA, the plastic that can be industrially composted

The objective of the European BeonNAT project is to create bioproducts with high added value in marginal lands in Spain, Germany, and Romania

Maverick Laboratories has joined the European BeonNAT project with the aim of investigating polylactic acid (PLA), a naturally-derived plastic that can be composted industrially and does not come from oil.

BeonNAT, funded by the European Commission with 5 million euros and managed by the Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), will grow six under-utilized species of trees and shrubs, such as juniper, rockrose, and cypress, and the elm, in infertile lands in Spain, Germany, and Romania.

From these trees, which will also serve to reduce the carbon footprint, substances such as paper, sawdust, essential oils, various extracts, biochar, activated carbon, absorbents, and bioplastics will be carefully selected and extracted and will become the base to develop the sustainable material PLA.

This project has received funding from the Biological Industries Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No. 887259. The JU receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program and the Biological Industries Consortium.

LABORATORIOS MAVERICK WILL CREATE AND VALIDATE THE QUALITY OF THE PACKAGING

As a specialist in the manufacture of containers and having its own blowing plant, Laboratorios Maverick’s cooperation will consist of making the bottles made with this bioplastic and validating them following the usual processes to ensure the container’s maximum quality.

This task will be coordinated with AIMPLAS, the Valencia-based Plastic Technological Institute, which will be in charge of synthesizing the PLA bioplastic to form the preforms that will be blown and evaluated at the Maverick Laboratories facilities.

Pedro Pérez, General Director of Laboratorios Maverick, stated that this initiative demonstrates the company’s commitment to introducing environmentally-friendly packaging into its production cycle.

“We are delighted to participate in BeonNAT by putting our facilities and the criteria of the most qualified professionals at the service of this project to investigate and validate the application of PLA in the industry. The commitment to sustainability is key to our business culture and initiatives of this kind are added to our efforts to promote the circular economy”, said Mr. Pérez.

We are stronger together

We are currently living in an extraordinary situation as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic; an epidemic that has forced us to change the way we live and how we behave in our day-to-day lives

We know that this situation is very difficult for everyone, and on behalf of myself and of the entire management team, I would like to extend our gratitude to all of the healthcare staff who are working directly with those who have been affected most, to the supermarket staff who are doing all that they can to ensure that the population continues to have access to all of its supplies, and to our suppliers, who have demonstrated great commitment and dedication to meet the extraordinary demands for supplies.

But we have left our most important thank you for last. We would like to thank those people who are working behind the scenes to ensure that the supermarkets shelves are fully stocked when they open their doors each day, to ensure that there are no product shortages and that the population is fully supplied.

That is why we want to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, AND THANK YOU A THOUSAND TIMES MORE to everyone who forms part of this great company, Grupo Ubesol. This miracle is only possible thanks to your enormous efforts and commitment, you have risen to the occasion and demonstrated day in, day out that you really are the Group’s most important asset and the reason why we are able to provide such a great level of service in response to these extraordinary circumstances.

As a sign of our commitment to society, as well as considerably boosting our productivity and working flat out to guarantee the supplies of our essential products, we have also adapted our manufacturing processes to be able to include Hand Sanitiser in our product portfolio. Both the healthcare authorities and the government recommend using hand sanitiser to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and as expert manufacturers, we considered it to be our duty to begin to manufacture this product in order to meet the needs of our society.

That is why we would like to give a special mention to all of those who are working so hard to fulfil our duty to society by producing as many hand sanitisers as possible.

However, despite the great efforts that we are asking of all of our staff, the Management Committee has not lost sight of the Group’s main objective; to limit the impact of this pandemic on the health of our employees by minimising the risk of contagion. That is why we have drawn up an Internal Action Protocol to boost our hygiene measures, minimise contact between workers as far as possible, and enable people to work remotely in the positions for which this is possible, in addition to other measures which we are updating on a daily basis.

These are difficult times, and now more than ever, it is important that we are all working together and pulling in the same direction with a common goal.

Laboratorios Maverick supports the new La Fe de Valencia Field Hospital by donating more than 21,000 hygiene products.

This new temporary 370-bed hospital facility, which opens this week, aims to improve the healthcare which is available to patients throughout the province

Laboratorios Maverick, one of the main national suppliers of hygiene and personal care products, has made a large donation of essential products to help in this fight against the coronavirus.

Laboratorios Maverick, a company specialised in developing and manufacturing hygiene and personal care products, with plants in Ulldecona (Tarragona) and San Fernando de Henares (Madrid), wanted to play its part in the country’s fight against the Covid-19 epidemic and it has done so through a considerable donation of essential hygiene products. Specifically we are talking about a shipment of more than 21,000 units, which were sent on Friday the 17th of April to the La Fe de Valencia Field Hospital; a temporary facility which will be opened in the coming days.

With this altruistic action, Laboratorios Maverick wanted to help to improve the material conditions in which the healthcare workers are working in their fight against coronavirus, while also giving all of those who form part of our country’s healthcare service and who are helping the people who have been affected by Covid-19, day after day, the recognition that they deserve.

“In light of the extraordinary situation that our country is currently facing, Laboratorios Maverick would like to help all of the healthcare staff who have been working passionately to provide their services throughout this crisis, and that is why we have collaborated by sending 21,650 essential products, because #THISNEEDNOTSTOP and the only way we will get through this is if we work together and pull in the same direction with a common goal” explains Pedro Pérez, General Director of Laboratorios Maverick.

The La Fe de Valencia Field Hospital which will be in use as of this week, will admit coronavirus patients with mild or moderate symptoms and who have progressed well over the last eight days. The infrastructure will be installed at least until the end of the year and it boasts a total of 370 beds, 29% more than its usual capacity.

Laboratorios Maverick is a leading company specialising in the development and manufacturing of innovative and sustainable personal hygiene and care products, and it has formed part of Grupo Ubesol (with headquarters in Adzaneta de Albaida, Valencia) since 2006. The company’s commitment to R&D&I is reflected in its recruitment of more than 70 specialist professionals with experience in leading multi-national companies.

These highly qualified professionals with proven track records have made it possible for Laboratorios Maverick to improve both the quality and competitiveness of its products, leading it to become one of Spain’s main suppliers in its sector. Fully aware of its social responsibilities, Laboratories Maverick has taken additional steps to be able to maintain its production and avoid any product shortages during the current health crisis.

Laboratorios Maverick has stepped up its commitment to sustainability, and it now forms part of the Global Compact Network Spain, sharing the United Nations initiative to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by minimising or eliminating the impact of its activities by reducing, reusing and recycling. Proof of this lies in the fact that the extrusion plant which is located in Ulldecona produces more than 100 million PET bottles, which are 100% recyclable, and a large proportion of the bottles have been produced from recycled plastic. Likewise, it is developing a wide portfolio of sustainable products, which will be available in 2020, some of which meet all of the requirements for Cosmos Certification.

#EverythingWillBeAlright #StrongerTogether #ThisNeedNotStop

Grupo Ubesol has transformed by intensifying its production rate to be able to meet the market demands during the covid-19 crisis.

The company has joined the #ESTONOTIENEQUEPARAR (#THISNEEDNOTSTOP) platform, joining forces with more than 3000 companies to emphasise the efforts which have been made by the workers

Thanks to its more than 40 years of experience in developing and manufacturing personal care and household cleaning products, Grupo Ubesol has been able to quickly and effectively adapt to this situation and meet the considerable demands for its products.

After almost two months of lockdown, and with the de-escalation process now underway, Grupo Ubesol’s production rates remain high given the great demand for personal hygiene and disinfecting products which it has experienced since the Covid-19 health crisis began in our country.

To be able to deal with this situation, Grupo Ubesol has added extra shifts and has reinforced its workforce by taking on approximately 30 new members of staff. However, thanks to the company’s extensive expertise, its team of professionals, its installations and its large productive capacity, it has been able to react quickly and adapt to the situation. The company has been able to adapt to these circumstances thanks to its 40 years of experience in the sector and its Lean Manufacturing philosophy, which focuses on the continuous improvement and optimisation of the production system.

The increase in production has focused, above all, on specific personal care and household cleaning products. The company has also adapted its production lines, and has included new essential products (which they are specialist producers of) in their portfolio.

Grupo Ubesol has adapted its installations, productions and manufacturing processes to be able to work at a dizzying rate in order to ensure the provision of hygiene and cleaning products in all homes, while also guaranteeing that it complies with the relevant safety measures. For this purpose, each of the companies that form this Group (Ubesol and Laboratorios Maverick) has set up Covid-19 Management Commission, which is comprised of the corresponding departments. These commissions have drawn up the corresponding Internal Action Protocols, enabling them to respond to the different instructions that come from the competent Administration. As well as ensuring the widespread usage of masks by allocating these on a regular and systematic basis, hydroalcoholic gels are also available for the workers in all of the common areas in the production plants and offices.

Since the beginning of this crisis, Grupo Ubesol has been contributed to different altruistic initiatives, collaborating with healthcare bodies, such as the IFEMA and La Fe Valencia field hospitals, care homes, fire brigades, law enforcement agencies and the city councils in the areas where its work centres are located.

The contribution to the social good, quality, innovation and improvement form part of the company’s DNA, and its main objective is to strive for excellence in each and every one of its products, ensuring the well-being of its consumers, by providing the best quality products at the best possible price.

Laboratorios Maverick donates 40,000 hygiene products to IFEMA

“Now more than ever, we must demonstrate, through our actions, our commitment and responsibility to society”

Laboratorios Maverick, Mercadona’s Gel and Shampoo supplier, has donated more than 40,000 essential hygiene products, which it has produced thanks to the hard work and dedication of its workers, and these products will be used by the Covid-19 patients who are beginning to arrive at the IFEMA field hospital.

The company stresses that “Now more than ever, we must demonstrate, through our actions, our commitment and responsibility to society. That is why with this donation we are not only sending our products, but we also want to transmit the belief of the company as a whole that #EverythingWillBeAlright, as we are convinced that we will get through this together.

500,000 Hand Sanitisers for the whole of Spain

Laboratorios Maverick has adapted its production lines both in Ulldecona (Tarragona) and in San Fernando De Henares (Madrid) to be able to supply much-needed Hand Sanitisers to help to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

500,000 units have already been shipped from our facilities to clients throughout Spain, and many of the products have been allocated to the city councils, local police, national police, mossos d’escuadra regional police, civil guard, care homes and hospitals.

We would like to pay tribute to all of our workers, as they are the ones who have made it possible for us to restructure our production in record time and make our contribution to the fight against COVID-19.
